Music Lessons For Everyone
At Berkeley's Backyard Music Foundation, we believe that music should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, experience, or financial circumstances. Our mission is to create a welcoming environment where students can discover a love for music, build confidence, and develop lifelong skills.
We offer free lessons taught by passionate volunteer musicians who are committed to helping others grow. Whether you're picking up an instrument for the very first time or looking to improve your abilities, we're here to support your musical journey.
Instruments We Teach
Guitar
Learn everything from the fundamentals to advanced techniques. Lessons can include chords, strumming, fingerstyle, scales, improvisation, music theory, songwriting, and lead guitar. Students can explore a variety of styles including rock, pop, jazz, blues, alternative rock, acoustic, and more.
Drums
Build solid timing, coordination, and confidence behind the kit. Students will learn proper technique, rhythm reading, grooves, fills, dynamics, and how to play with a band while exploring many different musical styles.
Bass Guitar
Discover the foundation of modern music. Bass lessons focus on technique, rhythm, groove, fretboard knowledge, scales, music theory, and learning how to lock in with drums to create a strong rhythm section.
Voice
Develop your voice with lessons focused on healthy vocal technique, breathing, pitch, tone, range, performance, and confidence. Students can explore a variety of styles while learning proper vocal habits and techniques that promote long-term vocal health.
